Wild Yam Root - Shan Yao (Organic)
In Chinese Medicine, Wild Yam is often used alone and in high doses to tonify the qi and yin of the Spleen, stomach, Lung, and Kidney. Symptoms for those pathologies include spontaneous sweating, fatigue, abdominal distention after eating, chronic coughing and wheezing, urinary frequency and vaginal discharge.
In the West, Wild Yam is used for its antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic effects. It relieves digestive upsets involving gastrointestinal irritation, especially around bile release or production, and colic pain. It can be used to reduce inflammation and pain in the joints, fibromyalgia, rheumatism, red skin rashes and sores.
Wild Yam is also used to reduce nausea and vomiting in the first trimester of pregnancy, to regulate menstruation, reduce pain from menopausal or PMS symptoms, and labor and after-pains during the postpartum period.
