Thyme is a well known culinary herb but has also been prized for its healing properties in traditional medicines. European traditions used thyme to alleviate coughing, bronchitis, whooping cough, sore throats, asthma, as an expectorant, and to expel intestinal worms.
Chinese traditions used thyme for similar symptoms, but for different reasons and more applications. Such as, reducing fever, sinus congestion, pain, as an adrenal and nerve restorative after stressful experiences. It was used to help restore concentration, clarity of mind and mental focus, address menstrual and reproductive issues, address digestive problems such as indigestion and yeast overgrowth. It was seen to reduce infection, and promote the repair of injury.
Thyme contains a powerful antioxidant, antibacterial and antiviral properties, and is also an effective anti-fungal and insecticide.
