Mullein Leaf and Flower

Verbascum thapsus

A plant found originally in Eastern Europe and Asia, it has also made its way to North America. Historically, the leaf was used to alleviate lung problems, acting as a gentle expectorant, good at controlling asthma, stopping coughs, and to speed wound healing. Its anti-inflammatory, soothing, properties led people to use it to reduce or stop other inflammation pain, such as with vaginal irritation, urethral irritation/cystitis, oral and throat irritation, or irritations of any other mucous membrane linings.

The flowers were traditionally soaked in olive oil, with the steeped olive oil having become popular for quickly soothing painful earaches.
